WHY NOTARIZE?
A notary public has all the powers of a commissioner for taking affidavits in Ontario. A notary public can also witness or certify and attest the execution of a document, and certify and attest documents to be true copies of the original.
In many situations you may be required to provide valuable documents such as your passport or birth certificate. This can be a risky practice as such documents can be very time consuming to replace if they get lost. By obtaining a notarized copy of such documents individuals can keep the originals safe and sound, and instead use a “certified true copy” in its place.
